Virtual Reality and Social Media.

- 05.08.16 -

YouTube enabled 360° videos in March of 2015. In a direct, albeit delayed, response, Facebook began rolling out its own version of the Virtual Realty (VR) technology in June of 2016. With social networking the number one activity on the internet, this means big business – not just for YouTube and Facebook, but for businesses as well.

As the applications and awareness of VR has continued to rise in recent years – and more accurately, recent months – the potential for this 360° technology is endless. VR is currently lending itself to a number of applications including: tourism, health, education, construction, gaming, retail and advertising.

So, what does this mean for businesses? Applying the 360° technology within a business’ marketing strategy offers an exciting and creative way for internet users to engage with your brand. This technology can provide strong engagement by requesting clicks. Users click and drag the camera view across all angles: zoom left to right, up and down, in and out.

And the only way to go is up! Imagine what can be achieved within the next few years as the technology advances; higher resolution, more cost-effective production, greater application, live streaming in 360°… All of this in Virtual Reality development, building towards what is expected to be a $50 billion industry by 2025.
